Myself and at least 50 of some of the most amazing, hard working people I have ever had the pleasure of meeting spend 30+ days in Rantoul, IL. A lovely town with some perfect locations for filmmakers, one of which we made our home base. The decommissioned Chanute Air Force Base, in one of the hangars, we built a large set and built a variety of lighting configurations to have full control of every part of our film. I played the part of a grip in this project, helping our Gaffer set up lights, run power, and create effects throughout the abandoned airport. It took 100% of our combined effort to make this an amazing experience, one that I will remember fondly for the rest of my life.
MY First Project
I often tell people that this was, “one of the most difficult things I have ever done in my life ever” I had to run 50’ cables weighing 80 to 100lbs at 5am in 20 degree weather with propane heat lamps and hand warmers to stay warm work for 12 hours moving stands and hoisting lights up and over my head and wrap it all back up at the end of the day.
To this day I tell them, “It was the most fun I had ever had doing anything at all ever in my life ever“. I would gladly do it again any day of the week.
